Gridwords Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

This policy explains what information Gridwords ("the app", "we", "us") collects when you play, how it's used, and the choices you have. Gridwords is a puzzle game (word search, crossword, and nonogram) available on the web and as an Android app.

Playing without an account

You can play Gridwords without signing in. In that case we assign your device a random local player ID and store your progress, coins, and settings on that device — we don't know who you are.

Information you provide

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address, and display name, so your progress can sync across devices and appear on leaderboards. You can also set a display name, avatar color, and country in the app independently of any Google account.

Gameplay and account information

Whether or not you're signed in, we store the information needed to run the game: puzzle progress and completion times, scores, coins, XP and level, streaks, and any badges earned; your app and content-bundle version, for compatibility and support; and, if you enable notifications, a push-notification token used to deliver them.

Advertising

Gridwords shows optional rewarded video ads (for example, to unlock a hint or add extra time) through Google AdMob. Watching an ad is always your choice — nothing is ever a required ad. AdMob and its advertising partners may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads, subject to Google's own privacy policies (policies.google.com/privacy). Where the law requires consent for personalized ads (for example, in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland), ads are only personalized with that consent; without it, Google serves non-personalized or limited ads instead. You can also reset or limit your device's advertising ID at any time in your Android settings. When you complete a rewarded ad, Google verifies the completion directly with our server (a signed, tamper-resistant callback) before your reward is granted.

Purchases

Gridwords is free to play and doesn't currently sell anything — there are no in-app purchases. If we ever offer an optional purchase (such as removing ads), it will be sold in the Android app only through Google Play Billing, and we'll update this policy first. We never see or store your card, UPI, or other payment details.

How we use this information

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with third parties except the service providers named in this policy (Google, for sign-in, ads, analytics and push notifications) to the extent needed for them to provide those services.

Children's privacy

Gridwords is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us using the details below and we'll delete it.

Your choices

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the game and comply with our legal obligations. When you delete your account, your personal and gameplay data is removed right away, as described above.

Website analytics

Our website (gridwords.lol) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use it — for example, which pages are viewed, approximate region, and device and browser type. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Push notifications on Android are delivered through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do; continued use of Gridwords after a change means you accept the updated policy.
